Why Choose Us

Frequently Asked Questions

Our small koi ponds take about 5 days to complete, our medium size ponds 2 weeks, our large ponds 4 weeks and up.

We are all about honesty, and this is what we want you to expect.

The first couple of days are the really hectic ones. You might start doubting if this makes sense. It will seem like a bomb exploded and all you’ll see is a big hole, a pile of dirt, pallets of boulders, rocks, and gravel.

The next stage is installing the liner and components. A big mess is, to be honest, the proper word to describe what you’ll see. Now, it’s a black hole with a black piece of liner covering it, and it might seem like the whole area has increased in depth and length. “How in the world will they be able to make this look anything like the pictures they have?” are some of the phrases our clients thought around this stage.

Rocking the pond, things start to have some form, and you start to understand why we have so many materials and all sorts of sizes. Still, our clients may think there are wrinkles in the liner and some boulders here and there, but at the same time, they start realizing how physical our projects are.

Attaching components and doing semi-finishing touches, this is the stage where you start gaining back your backyard, and you see that all or most of the materials are in the pond. It still looks a little messy, and the liner is still showing, but we need to test all lines and water flow at this stage. This is to ensure all is ready and flows as we expect.

Final finishes. The exposed liner gets covered, rocks are washed, and lights are tested. This is actually the fastest part of the process but the most rewarding. At the final stage, the waterfall is running, and you’ll be able to enjoy your pond.

Once completed, we’ll go over all the things you need to know about your pond and the weekly maintenance you have to do which should take no more than an hour, how to properly care for your pond, cleaning, fish feeding, etc.

All ponds are different and there is no way of knowing how your pond will behave, In Some of our ponds in one week the water will be almost crystal clear and stay like that after throughout the whole season, most will clear up but start turning green or brownish, don’t panic your pond is a living ecosystem and need some time for all components to work, bacteria to establish, fish and plants to acclimate, etc.

Very Simple

Our Initial deposit is 10% of the cost of your pond up to $1,000.00 for projects over 10k.

We’ll provide a written payment schedule in your contract which is based on the progress of your project, we’ll be collecting our payments based on what percentage of completions we are as well on materials on site.

Our final payment is collected at the time we go over the whole system and explain what needs to be done to your pond.

Certainly, when you become a part of our clientele, you’ll enjoy an enduring relationship with us. Don’t hesitate to contact us whenever you have queries or matters to discuss. Additionally, should the situation require it, we are more than equipped to extend our services and maintenance for your pond well beyond the stipulated warranty period. Your pond’s well-being and your contentment are our commitments.

Costs vary based on size, access, and level of detail. A well-built koi pond is an investment in both aesthetics and function, typically starting in the mid five figures and scaling up with complexity. The key is building it right the first time to avoid ongoing corrections, 60-70% of the work we do is repairing someone elses’s mistakes.

Yes—if the pond is engineered correctly. Clear water comes from proper biological filtration, adequate circulation, and balanced fish load. When those elements are dialed in, clarity becomes a byproduct of a healthy system.

Bigger is usually better for stability. Depth, volume, and layout all play a role in fish health and water quality. A minimum of 2 feet deep is common,  more depth and volume create are ideal for someone thinking of adding a good ammount of koi fish in their ponds.

A properly functioning pond does not. Moving water, fish activity, and circulation prevent stagnant conditions where mosquitoes breed. In fact, a balanced pond often reduces mosquito issues compared to still water features.

It can be, with intentional design. Gradual edges, strategic depth transitions, and clear visibility all contribute to safety. Like any water feature, it requires awareness, but it can be designed responsibly for family environments.

Most koi ponds take about 1–2 weeks depending on size and complexity. Larger or more intricate projects may extend beyond that, especially when access or structural elements are involved.

That depends entirely on who builds it. A well-executed pond should blend into the landscape and feel like it belongs there—not like it was placed there. Rock placement, elevation changes, and water movement are what make the difference.

Stocking should be based on water volume and filtration capacity—not just pond size. A common baseline is roughly one koi per 150 – 200 gallons, depending on the system’s design and how large the fish will grow. The goal is to avoid overcrowding, which impacts water quality and fish health. A well-planned pond leaves room for growth, maintains balance, and supports long-term stability rather than pushing maximum capacity.

Feeding depends on water temperature and season. In warmer months, koi are active and can be fed once to twice daily with high-quality food they can consume within a few minutes. As temperatures drop, their metabolism slows, and feeding should be reduced or paused altogether. The focus is controlled feeding—enough to support health and growth without creating excess waste that impacts water quality.

In the Bay Area, a properly built Aquascape pond naturally supports a consistent food source through algae, insects, and biological activity. Because of this, koi don’t require frequent feeding. We typically recommend feeding once or twice per week, depending on fish activity and overall pond balance. As water temperatures approach 50°F and below, feeding should stop entirely. Overfeeding is one of the most common causes of water quality issues, so controlled feeding plays a key role in long-term pond stability.

In most cases, standard residential koi ponds do not require a permit—especially when they’re considered landscape features and don’t involve structural walls, plumbing tied to the home, or significant grading. However, requirements can vary by city and project scope. Factors like depth, electrical work, drainage, or proximity to property lines may trigger permits.

For projects in the Bay Area, it’s always best to review local guidelines early in the planning phase. A properly planned pond accounts for these considerations upfront, avoiding delays and ensuring everything is built to code when needed.

A properly built koi pond is designed to be manageable, not demanding. In most cases, routine upkeep takes about 20–30 minutes per week. This typically includes removing light debris, cleaning the skimmer basket, adding beneficial bacteria, and doing a quick check on equipment, water clarity, and fish behavior.

The difference comes down to design. When filtration, circulation, and system balance are executed correctly, the pond largely supports itself. Maintenance stays simple, consistent, and efficient—instead of becoming a constant chore.

Yes—but it needs to be designed correctly. In the Bay Area, where outdoor living is year-round, incorporating plants into a koi pond adds both visual depth and functional value. However, koi are known to disturb plants by digging and feeding on roots, so proper planning is essential.

The solution is strategic placement. In our Livermore and Bay Area koi pond builds, we install plants in protected zones like shallow shelves, gravel beds, or dedicated wetland filtration areas where fish have limited access. When integrated correctly, aquatic plants help improve water quality, reduce excess nutrients, and support a stable, low-maintenance ecosystem.

A well-designed koi pond with plants doesn’t just look natural—it performs better over time.

Predators like herons, raccoons, and neighborhood pets are common throughout the Bay Area, so protection needs to be built into the pond from day one. The most effective strategy combines depth, layout, and subtle deterrents.

In our Livermore and Bay Area koi pond builds, we design deeper zones (typically 3 feet or more), incorporate steep edges, and create natural hiding areas so koi have a place to retreat. Rock placement and overall layout are key to limiting easy access for predators.

We also install fish lines in a crisscross pattern across the pond. This creates a discreet barrier that prevents birds like herons from landing or striking effectively—without taking away from the natural look of the pond.

When all these elements are integrated properly, your koi are protected without relying on bulky or intrusive solutions.
