The Beggining

This project in Mountain House, California was part of a new development, and we were glad our client planned ahead and brought us in early. Having first access to the site before any hardscape installation made the entire pond and waterfall build much smoother compared to other projects we’ve worked on.

By getting involved early, we were able to work without the usual limitations that come with building water features in completed landscapes, allowing for a more efficient process and a better overall result.

The Challenge

This project in Mountain House, California was part of a new construction, and early planning made a major difference in the success of the pond and waterfall build. Our client brought us in before any hardscape or landscaping was installed, giving us full access to the site from the start.

This allowed us to plan grading, elevations, and plumbing without the limitations that come with retrofitting water features into finished yards. The result was a smoother build process, a more natural design, and better long-term performance.

Our solution

To meet these goals, we applied strategic, practical solutions.

Since the yard in Mountain House, California was flat, we built a small retaining wall to create elevation for the pond and waterfall. This added height allowed for better water movement, a more natural look, and helped the water feature stand out within the landscape.

To enhance the design, we incorporated a 30″ Aquascape stacked stone sphere to create the illusion of height. Although the water feature is only 24″ tall, this element helps the waterfall appear taller and more prominent—one of the most common requests we get from clients looking for impact in smaller spaces.

To give our client flexibility, we installed an Aquascape SLD variable speed pump, allowing easy adjustment of the waterfall flow. It can run at a soft, low setting for a relaxing atmosphere, or be increased to create a more powerful, lively water feature—perfect for gatherings or when more visual impact is desired.

To finish this water feature, we also completed the landscape design and incorporated outdoor lighting. We offer this service for clients who want the entire surrounding area done at once, avoiding the need to bring in other contractors later. It also allows us to control excavation areas and protect the liner from potential damage.
