The start
This project began when my friend and mentor, Alan Decker, contacted me about helping him with a project in Mexico. Since Mexico is my home country, I immediately became excited about the opportunity. I reached out to another good friend, Erick, who lives in Mexico and owns The Magic Pond. Alan had also contacted Sean Frost, an exceptional pond builder and personal friend. I invited my nephew to join us as well, knowing a project of this scale would require extra hands. It quickly became clear that Alan and I had assembled a talented and dependable team for this unique project.
The Challenge
Every project comes with challenges, but working abroad adds another level of complexity. We had to coordinate the transportation of major components, work with limited access to large suppliers, manage restricted site access, and find enough space to stage materials and arrange the massive boulders. Despite these obstacles, the team never backed down. We found solutions, had a great time working together, finished with an incredible sense of pride, and built even stronger friendships along the way.
what we did
Considering the Project’s Unique Challenges and Requirements, We Implemented the Following Solutions:
- Wetland 400 Ft²
Effective filtration is essential for maintaining a large body of water like this recreation pond. We incorporated a proven wetland filtration system designed to naturally remove excess nutrients and debris while keeping the water clean, clear, and healthy.
- Waterfalls for Beauty and Harmony
Incorporated lifelike artificial greenery in select areas to reduce maintenance without compromising visual impact.
- Circulation Jets
We installed strategically placed jets to improve water movement and recirculation throughout the pond. This helps reduce stagnant areas, directs water toward the filtration system, and supports more consistent water quality.
- Low-Voltage Lighting
We incorporated low-voltage lighting throughout the pond and waterfalls to highlight the rockwork, water movement, and depth after sunset. The lighting transforms the entire feature at night, allowing the recreation pond to be enjoyed well beyond daylight hours.
