The Beggining
This complete backyard transformation in Livermore, California began after our clients saw the work we had completed for one of their neighbors. They contacted us to redesign the entire backyard and create a more inviting, comfortable, and welcoming outdoor space.
We explained that while Aquascape Creations occasionally handles full backyard renovations, a professionally designed water feature must remain at the center of the project. They agreed, and we began the design process.
Working with our trusted subcontractors, we completed the landscaping, hardscape, gathering areas, and surrounding improvements. The custom koi pond became the main focal point, featuring natural boulders, aquatic plants, moving water, and a relaxing waterfall.
We also installed landscape lighting to highlight the koi pond, waterfall, plants, and outdoor living areas after sunset. The finished backyard now serves as a peaceful retreat and entertainment space, while the pond continues to attract birds and local wildlife.
The Challenge
Overall, this project went very smoothly. We were given full access to the property, and because the entire backyard was being renovated, we did not have to work around finished landscaping or worry about damaging existing improvements.
The only unexpected issue was a hidden water line that could not be shut off from any of the valves connected to the house. We contacted the city, and fortunately, they responded quickly and shut off the main water line so we could make the necessary repair safely.
Other than that minor setback, the entire backyard transformation progressed without any significant challenges.
Our solution
What Went Into Creating This Backyard Transformation?
- 15 tons of boulders
More than 15 tons of natural boulders were carefully selected and placed throughout the project to shape the koi pond, create natural transitions, and give the backyard a timeless, established appearance.
- 900 gallons koi pond
A 900-gallon koi pond was designed as the centerpiece of the backyard, combining natural boulders, moving water, aquatic plants, and biological filtration to create a healthy environment for the fish. We also added an Aquascape stacked stone sphere, bringing additional movement, sound, and charm to the finished landscape.
- 4-7k GPH SLD Pump
We installed an Aquascape SLD 4,000–7,000 GPH adjustable-flow pump to provide dependable circulation, support the pond’s filtration system, and maintain consistent water movement through the waterfall.
- Beatiful concrete bridge
We also added a beautiful custom concrete bridge that spans the koi pond and creates a functional connection between the house and pool area. In addition to improving access through the backyard, the bridge became an architectural focal point within the overall landscape.
