When homeowners dream about adding a koi pond or water feature, one of the biggest challenges is simply understanding how it might sit within the property. At Aquascape Creations, we offer 3D design as a way to explore ideas, secure approvals, and visualize scale before construction begins.
Why 3D Design Has a Place
Designing a koi pond is about more than digging a hole and adding water. Rock placement, the movement of a waterfall, circulation patterns, and the way a pond integrates with its surroundings are what define its success. While a 3D rendering will never fully represent the artistry that happens on-site, it can:
-
Offer a conceptual view of layout and proportions.
-
Help communicate ideas when multiple decision-makers are involved.
-
Support approval processes for HOAs, municipalities, or larger-scale builds.
Why We Don’t Always Rely on 3D Plans
Our philosophy is that the true design happens in the field. No computer model can replicate the feel of natural stone placement or the way water finds its most organic path. For that reason, we usually deter from fixed blueprints—too much rigidity risks taking away the natural beauty that defines a koi pond.
That said, there are projects where a 3D design makes sense. Large commercial builds, high-investment residential projects, or situations where formal approval is required are prime examples. These designs require significant time and detail, which is why they are offered as a premium service.
Setting Real Expectations
It’s important to note: a 3D rendering is a guide, not a promise of the final product. Every pond evolves during construction. Rock availability, grade changes, and artistic adjustments on-site are what ultimately shape the finished look. The rendering is there to help you understand direction—not to serve as an exact replica.
A Smarter Way to Plan Your Landscape Investment
A koi pond is a long-term investment in your property and lifestyle. For some clients, a 3D design adds value to the process; for others, it’s best to trust the in-field artistry that comes naturally with years of experience. At Aquascape Creations, we provide both—technology when needed, and craftsmanship always.
When a 3D design is required, we strongly encourage clients to model the entire outdoor project—not just the pond. This includes hardscapes, landscaping, patio covers, pergolas, and other structural elements. Taking this broader approach gives you the ability to see how all components will work together, creating a unified vision for your property and helping you visualize the final outcome more effectively.
How much does it Cost for 3D Design
Because of the time and expertise involved, 3D design is not included in standard pond projects. Our average 3D recreation packages start at $1,500 and depending on complexity can run 2-3 times that ammount, depending on size, scope and level of detail.
Each package includes:
-
Scaled plot plan showing accurate dimensions.
-
Still photo renderings to capture different views of the project.
-
A 3-minute video walkthrough to experience the design as if you were walking through the space see this video example
-
Smaller conceptual renderings (pond only) fall on the lower end.
-
Full property models—including landscaping, patios, pergolas, and outdoor living structures—require a greater investment.
We present pricing upfront so clients know exactly what to expect. For many, the added confidence in having a scaled plan, visuals, and a virtual walkthrough makes it a worthwhile step, especially on larger projects.
